Turn your head and cough!

Now, I know what some of you might be thinking with this common medical command, especially among men, but believe me, it has nothing to do with that.

While sitting at the dinner table, I am amazed at the discussions we have, including arguments that stem from discussions. Mostly, however, the discussions center around someone else's behavior.

Our 2 year old is just beginning to discover how his body works, including coughs and sneezes. And hence, the following story.

Our 6 year old is quite dramatic. The 10 year old is a lovely defiant and the 15 year old prefers to do his own thing. The 2 year old is just beginning to show his personality. At dinner the other day, the 6 year old coughs and the 10 year old responds, "Turn your head and cough!" This creates a discussion which merits input from all parties at the table. But the discussion ends abruptly when the 2 year old sneezes...with a mouthful of food.

The 6 year old moans, "OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH YYUUUUUUUUCCKKKKKKK!" The 10 year old says, "That was gross!"
The 15 year old decides walking away from the table is the best solution.
My wife and I look at each other, smile and begin the clean up.
