Laundry...Laundry...Laundry...Laundry...more Laundry...

Day 11

Laundry. OK. I DON'T get this one.
I am pretty good with getting clothes into the washing machine. The problem is, it takes about 20 minutes to complete a cycle. Ladies, here is how a man looks at the process of washing clothes:
  • If I stand here and watch it, when it finishes, I can load it into the dryer. But then, I'll get in trouble for not doing something 'productive'.
  • If I leave, I can get a bunch of other stuff done, then, when it finishes, I can load it into the dryer.
See the pattern here? THE INTENTION IS TO ALWAYS TRANSFER THE LOAD!

Men who plop themselves down in front of the TV to watch a 'few minutes of a ball game' while waiting for the washing machine to finish its cycle get in all sorts of trouble for 'wasting time' or 'being unproductive.'

But, if a man puts laundry in and then gets 'distracted' by an important ball game, or another chore, and then allows 'the laundry' to 'slip from his mind,' gets in all sorts of trouble for not remembering and then having to wash the load again because it's sour.

When I do the laundry, I usually remember to switch it out in a few days. And, for the record, no one is screaming about needing a particular sock or towel, so there really ISN'T any urgency in this chore at all.

Mopping the Floor

Day 10

I have always wondered how it is that moms are able to do so much. Like the day my wife said something like, "Today I only did 35 loads of laundry, baked 16 loaves of bread, changed the sheets on all the beds..." (something like that).

I just can't figure this out. I get up in the morning, look at the clock and think, "OK. I have just over 14 hours to work on the house today. Surely I can get some noticeable things done." And yet, it doesn't seem to happen the way I envision it.

Mopping the Floor. I get this one. I figured out how to get the floor mopped. It starts like this:

  1. Get out the ice cube tray to make yourself a nice glass of ice water.
  2. Fill up the empty cubes with fresh water.
  3. Open up the freezer to put back in the tray.
  4. Have an ice pack fall out of the freezer and knock the ice cube tray to the floor spilling all the water.
  5. Grab a ton of rags and towels to clean up the water before it destroys the laminate flooring.
