Day 21
Bedtime routines. No matter how hard I try, on school nights my children aren't getting to bed at the time my wife and I determined they should be getting to bed.
I started 15 minutes before bed time. HOW LONG SHOULD IT TAKE TO GET A SNACK, TAKE SHOWERS, CLOTHE AND CLIMB IN BED?! WE HAVE TWO FULL BATHS for crying out loud! We were an hour and a half late that night!
I tried 30 minutes before bed on another night. We were only an hour late that night!
I tried 1 hour before bed time. That night the kids got in bed on time, then spent the next 30 minutes wanting to read, visit, have a story read to them, snuggle...
BEDTIME!?
I figured, if the kids get to bed late, we wake them up for school. They can take a nap when they get home if they are tired.
So, our youngest student decides to take a nap after school. From 4-6:30 seemed like a good nap. Our infant sleeps about 2 hours, and HE'S not going to school. That night, that young student was awake until LONG, LONG, LONG after bedtime, singing, reading, playing cars, etc., etc., etc.
I've been excused from baking bread, but welcomed back into the kitchen for making meals and doing the dishes. I can changes the baby's diapers and start and fold laundry. If I'm not careful, I might just get the boot from retirement!
What's YOUR routine for getting kids in bed...ON TIME?
