It all started with, "I'm dead."
We had been to the beach and enjoyed a WONDERFUL time together. We walked up the sand dunes, wandered around and then run down the dune. We had waded in the waters of Silver Lake. My wife, Denise, even laid in the sand and said, "This is the life!" The day couldn't have been better.
When it was time to come back home, we gathered the toys, cleaned up our area, made sure the boat engine started BEFORE pushing off shore, not like last year. The kids were so helpful. Everyone pitched in to help get the littlest ones get ready for the boat ride. We counted the children and then headed for home. When we left the beach, there were only 2 chairs left on the beach.
The lake waters were calm on our way back to the dock, unlike the trip to the beach. In fact, the children took turns 'driving' the boat. As we pulled in to the marina, I took over the controls and gently floated the boat into its port. EVERYONE worked together to help empty the boat.
It was exactly 1 year ago that I got off the boat to put the boat in its port, and then, while standing in 3 feet of water,I remembered the phone that was in my pocket.
I was tying up the boat when I heard my 6 year old say, "I'm dead."
The very next thing I heard was Denise saying, "You did not!" Then, as I remember, the conversation went like this:
Yes, he did!
Tell me you're kidding. You're kidding, right?!
He really did!
No you didn't!
iPhones don't float. They don't float in puddles, they don't float in lakes. They don't drink water of any kind...and they don't respond very well when you give them water.
