Just 2 minutes late

That moment when you realize your oldest son took the trash to the curb without being asked is such a wonderful moment. The clouds part and angels begin to sing! A music is in the air.

That sinking feeling when on my way home, I remembered seeing 2 garbage cans in front of the house when I left. We only have one 'garbage' can. Oh, we have another 'can' that USED TO BE USED for garbage, but was now used as storage for some items, like extension cords and hoses.

That feeling upon seeing two empty garbage cans in front of the house, knowing that you're too late to change anything that has already happened...yep...I know that feeling. I could have chased the garbage truck...but, I knew that wouldn't change anything. I was just 2 minutes late, but that was enough.

I'm just grateful I realized it was my fault for moving the storage 'garbage can' to the other side of the garage next to the real trash can.

I gave my son a hug and thanked him for taking out the trash without being reminded.

  1. Good job, Dad! That's one blessed son - and one awesome father!

  2. I'm slowly finding other things I lost in the storage 'can'. The planters (clay and plastic) were there...but ABSOLUTELY nothing as valuable as the relationship I have with my son!

I'm just glad I had my head on straight so that I didn't live to regret my response! I'm glad I have the father I do. He has taught me much about relating with others. My mother has taught me how to be a pretty good dad too. :)
